Description

A place of simplicity and peace set amongst fields and trees and possessing a special atmosphere of quietness and with a true sense of a “thin place “ where the life of the spirit can seem truly close at hand.
One of the smallest and simplest churches in Cornwall, St. Winwaloe's originated in the 12th century when it was a chapel associated with Launceston Priory. It consists of a chancel and nave and a tower which was added in the 16th century when it gained the right to bury the dead. It sits in the countryside amongst ancient trees with a wildflower rich churchyard which has an approach in one direction over a coffen stile (from the Cornish word meaning “hole in the ground”). Lovely views across the countryside towards Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor.
The church is normally kept open.
