Eglwys Sant Tecwyn, Llandecwyn

Description

A wonderful setting in Snowdonia which was the site of one of the sixth century Celtic Christian churches of Wales, and where the Small Pilgrim Places Network was founded.

The church is no longer able to be kept open throughout the summer, but the magic of the place is well worth a visit to meditate and connect with centuries of spiritual presence.

The churchyard opens off an ancient trackway that is probably neolithic in origin.

The spiritual significance of the place may go back much further than St Tecwyn's day. The word Llan in Welsh signifies a sacred enclosure within which the cell or church was built, and the aura of this strikes one upon entering the ancient lychgate. The present church replaced a medieval one in the nineteenth century.
